Cooper Willson

About the artist:

Cooper Willson creates art to demonstrate that artistic ability resides within everyone, expressing that style seamlessly/entirely reflects experiences. Despite attempts at capturing elements of reality, his unique approach remains inherent, making his work original and contextually fitting. With a background in environmental sciences at Cal Poly, SLO and a wide range of studies from soil chemistry and meteorology to politics and philosophy, he perceives art as essential to understanding larger systems, akin to ecosystems. Emphasizing the importance of seeking truth in nature, adaptability, and fluidity, he believes in nurturing individual and global ecosystems through interpersonal storytelling and diverse forms of expression. Rather than labeling his work as abstract, he sees it as literal; a direct reflection of his emotions, mechanics, conditioning, and genetics—his very nature. Everyone has a nature, and there are more mediums to engage imagination than what has been discovered. He encourages everyone to play with materials, sounds, colors and to share their stories!

Stranded without paddles over a hungry shark the boater has no other option but to let go of hoping to be somewhere else. Engulfed by the remaining beauty of day, as it slips into the dark unknown, he finds existential comfort.

A large portion was finger painted in the rain in front of famous musicians such as Thundercat and Peach Pit
